Each year, the National Science Foundation supports Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) sites around the country. At these sites, you can spend 6-10 weeks in the summer working on a research problem. Your visit is supported by the host university and/or the NSF. Students typically work on a problem and then write up a paper describing their results. In some cases, the papers are submitted for publication to peer-reviewed journals. If you are thinking about graduate school in mathematics or if you are interested to push your mathematical learning to a higher level, I would strongly urge you to check out the REU program.
